Find something to do

The original Velvet Lounge was established in 1982, and founded by the jazz legend Fred Anderson. Anderson’s trailblazing style of jazz influenced musicians around the world, and the Velvet Lounge quickly became the number one hot spot among Chicago’s experimental music scene. Though Anderson passed away in 2010, his legacy lives on in the newly opened Velvet Lounge, which serves as a testament to Anderson’s signature style and personality that brought Chicagoans together. Anderson’s music is featured on more than 20 albums, including The Fred Anderson Quarter Vol. 1 and Back at the Velvet Lounge. The jazz legend’s spirit also lives on through his non-profit, the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM). The Velvet Lounge showcases live music three times a week from the best local and national recording artists and DJs. Visitors can kick back and enjoy a full bar, drink specials, and signature cocktails created by Chicago’s top mixologist. Be sure to relax on the outdoor patio or book a private or VIP room for your next business or family event.
